What changes the plumbing here
- Island water starts out brackish
- Island Water Association supplies water to the whole City of Sanibel. Its source is the Suwannee Aquifer, about 700 to 900 feet down, and that water is brackish, with a moderate salt content. The salt is the main reason IWA treats it with reverse osmosis.
- Ian's surge hit the east end hardest
- The National Hurricane Center put Hurricane Ian's peak storm surge at 9 to 13 feet above ground on the eastern part of Sanibel in 2022. The surge also washed away parts of the causeway. If your home took on water then and plumbing problems keep turning up, it is worth a look.
