Reservoir water, blended

City of Punta Gorda Utilities draws its water from Shell Creek Reservoir, held back by the Hendrickson Dam, which was built in 1964. The treated surface water is blended with reverse-osmosis water from six wells, and a stabilizer is added for corrosion control.

The pipe from the meter is yours

The city owns the service line from the water main to the meter. The line from the meter into the house belongs to the homeowner. The city is inventorying service line materials under EPA rules and says it stopped using galvanized steel service lines in the 1980s.

Septic in the county

Charlotte County Utilities' Sewer Master Plan, updated in 2024, is the county's road map for expanding sewer and cutting the nutrients septic systems send toward Charlotte Harbor.
