Lehigh Acres is our neighbor to the east, a short drive out from the Fort Myers shop, and we work there regularly. One recent call was a water heater that had stopped working. We ordered a new control board and two elements, came back to fit them, and tested it working. On another job we replaced a toilet supply line and shutoff valve, reset the toilet on a new wax ring, then snaked the main cleanout and confirmed it clear on camera.
What changes the plumbing here
- Many homes run on private wells
- A large number of Lehigh Acres homes draw water from their own wells. A 2016 South Florida Water Management District memo noted that the Lee County health department had documented over 30,000 wells in the area.
- Hard water, with iron in places
- The USGS has described the sandstone aquifer that many Lehigh wells tap as hard, with iron and dissolved solids above recommended limits in places. Hard water leaves scale in water heaters, heating elements and fixtures.
- Well owners look after their own water
- The Florida Department of Health in Lee County says private well owners are responsible for the safety of their water and recommends testing every year for bacteria and nitrates. Failing septic tanks and floodwater are two ways wells get contaminated. We repair the line between the house and the septic tank, not the tank itself.
- Utility service in parts of town
- FGUA supplies water and sewer to part of Lehigh Acres and treats its water with lime softening. In 2026 it has been designing a septic-to-sewer conversion for a study area along Lee Boulevard.
