What changes the plumbing here

Water bought from Lee County

The Town's utility buys its water from Lee County Utilities. It is a blend of reverse-osmosis and ion-exchange water from one plant and lime-softened water from another. Lee County Utilities also provides sewer service to the Town.

Ian, and the 50 percent rule

The National Hurricane Center put Hurricane Ian's peak storm surge on Fort Myers Beach at 10 to 15 feet above ground, with about 900 structures destroyed and 2,200 damaged. In the flood zone, repairs or improvements worth 50 percent of a building's value mean the building must meet current flood map rules. The Town counts all permits from the past five years toward that total and asks owners and contractors to talk with its staff before such a project.

Backflow devices get tested every year

The Town runs a backflow program, and backflow assemblies in the Town need a test every year. Licensed testers file each report online with the company that tracks the program for the Town.
